We are asking for your support of Our Shoreline Community Association (OSCA), an important new initiative that will allow seniors in the Noank-Mystic area to achieve the security and social support of a retirement community, while living in their own homes for as long as they care to do so.
This non-profit membership organization will encourage seniors to help one another, by coordinating rides and deliveries and by staying in touch with and supporting one another. With the assistance of our newly hired part-time Coordinator, Stephanie Panagos, OSCA will:
- Encourage and arrange for attendance at cultural and recreational events;
- Establish social events, including reading clubs, game nights and socials;
- Contact members on a regular basis to make sure they are secure in their homes;
- Arrange for transportation to doctor appointments and shopping and
- Maintain a list of recommended plumbers, carpenters, home health aides, dog walkers and others who can assist seniors in staying in their homes
By relying on the volunteer participation of its members, OSCA intends to deliver these services on a budget of under $60,000 a year. We intend to recruit enough members to become self-supporting and to offer reduced fee memberships to those families who cannot afford the full fee of $365 a year. However, we need your help to launch the program and make it available to those in need.
Our Shoreline Community Association will begin operations under the financial auspices of the Noank Baptist Church, and once established, it will become its own non-profit, membership corporation. The Church, Charles B. Allyn Foundation, Anderson-Paffard Foundation, St. Patrick Church - Community Life, Mystic, Mystic Rotary, Mystic Lions and numerous local individuals and families have provided important seed money. We need your help as well so that we can recruit members and begin our program.
Please consider one of the gift categories below and send your tax deductible check to Our Shoreline Community Association, P.O. Box 287, West Mystic, CT 06388-0287. Thank you for any help you can provide.
Very truly yours,
Tim Bates, Sam Crowley, Bob Leeney, Don Farrington, Joan Butler, Tom Jennerwein, Nancy Codeanne
